Will swimming goggles protect eyes against tear gas?

The issue with wearing a swimming mask or goggles in a tear gas situation is that swimming goggles require positive pressure on the outside of the mask in the water to keep the soft silicon mask body tight to the face. While effective anti-fog additives can prevent lens fogging, sweating on dry land is not the same as sweating underwater, and your eyes will be bothered by sweat with or without fog, and the sweat will lubricate the mask in the unlikely event that the tear gas fails.

That said, there are good goggles designed to be used in a particulate-filled environment, such as tear gas, which is best experienced with a complete face mask like the MSA Millennium Gas Mask. [ ]
